An exercise in design communication, this exhibition celebrated Diesel as a unique label, operating and appealing on many different levels to many different people.
Concept
The Diesel Style Office travel the world on the infamous Diesel research trips, discovering curiosities – from 1960s furniture to fluorescent illuminated fish tanks – which have gone on to furnish the Diesel Pelican Hotel in Miami.
For the installation at Mission, the space was transformed into a similar Diesel environment, with an interactive living space consisting of a bedroom, relaxation and working areas.
Showcasing the design process behind Diesel's success, the exhibition featured vintage pieces gleaned from flea markets around the world, past Diesel collections, Diesel graphics, sketch books from the interior department and various Diesel objects that were designed as point of sale.
Exhibits
Vintage clothing, swing tags, old point of sale and Diesel product was displayed in plexi-glass cases on the walls like paintings, interspersed with period film posters, lamps and radios, clocks and vases.
The visitor was invited to hang out in the space, watch some of the Diesel Style Office's favourite videos, put on a swinging record, read a Fredericks of Hollywood book or enjoy a game of Twister.
Launch party supported by Wallpaper* (the magazine’s very first collaboration).
Catering by 21st Century Food, featuring airline-style packaged nibbles and Diesel branded paraphernalia (napkins, etc).
