"The discipline of textile design has for too long been subsumed into the world of fashion and interior design. This show goes some way to redressing the balance, opening the practice up to the critical attention and accolades it deserves."

CONCEPT

Organised by the Loughborough College of Art and Design, Mission hosted this travelling exhibition challenging textiles subordination to the worlds of fashion and design.

The show was the result of a metamorphous of textiles from the conventions of embroidery into a media that defies description but poses questions – is textiles art or is it craft? Just what constitutes fabric today?

The textiles on display offered new perceptions on an old discipline. Textiles as an interpretation in fashion, interior and art. Textiles pushing the parameters of technology and manufacturing. Textiles for tomorrow.

Graduates and tutors including Simon Costin, Marie O' Mahony, Sadie Staker and Rebecca Young successfully redefined the discipline of textile design to form a striking display of creativity bound up by the culture of the moment.
