Pierre Cardin Exhibition
Yvonne ‘brokered’ this exhibition ‘Pierre Cardin: Sculptures Utilitaires with the Design Museum. Not without its logistical challenges, the biggest hurdle was breaking through the press’ prejudices – a case of fashion journalists dismissing designers who are commercially savvy (except The Financial Times).
Cardin was the first Western designer in Russia and China (telling Forbes "I never go where oil has already been discovered.”); changed menswear forever (with casual dressing and the collarless, lapel-less jacket and zip openings), was the first to use vinyl in fashion; the first to use male models; invented tights. At the time of the project, he had 840 factories in 102 countries; a workforce of 190,000; an estimated turnover of £1.2 billion and more licenses than Dior, Saint Laurent and Calvin Klein combined.
Yvonne oversaw all media interest/interview requests, liaised with the museum for the private view preparations, poster campaign and promotion on the museum’s website, plus accompanying merchandise product for the museum shop and selected retailers.
