CULTURE highlight
Powerhouse UK
Cool Britannia represented a period of hype aimed at showcasing the best of modern Britain’s creativity to an international audience.
The phrase was a label for the cultural renaissance that happened during the early days of UK’s New Labour government when Tony Blair’s government co-opted celebrity pop stars, actors, artists and designers into the heart of the establishment and then rebranded the UK as a ‘cultural powerhouse.
This was presented in the ‘powerhouse: uk’ exhibition (held at the horse guards parade, designed by Nigel Coates) and accompanying limited edition catalogue which Yvonne helped publicise (produced in collaboration with Wordsearch).
